Kristen Gulbransen

Hi! I am Kristen Gulbransen, a full time continuous member of the School of Health Sciences. I teach in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program and am in the faculty navigator role at the present Kristen is known to love her nursing educator role. She has had the privilege of being a registered nurse since 2000. She commenced the nursing undergraduate program with a desire to work with people and “make a difference” . When graduated from the BScN University of Alberta program she was hired in labour and delivery position with Alberta Health Services following her final preceptorship in an international midwifery setting in Perth, Australia. Once working as a registered nurse she continued to have a desire for formal education and knew she wanted to learn more and influence practice and policy. This led her to attending the University of Calgary with a focus on family centered care and a final thesis on “Barriers to Abuse Assessment” study. She graduated with a Master of Nursing in 2005.

Following completion she pursued a full time continuous position in academia at the Red Deer College, teaching in the maternal child theory and clinical area and nursing research. She has had the opportunity to be in a variety of roles on faculty and more recently the faculty navigator, a lead position supporting faculty during the transition from clinician to teaching. With the announcement of Red Deer University (RDU) in 2019 Kristen applied to the PhD program at the University of Manitoba. She was accepted and commenced in the Fall of 2019. Further pursuit of graduate education to position RDU Nursing Programs to degree grant along with furthering nursing research influenced her decision to return to school.
